FAQ
Questions about Flutter OTA with Duck.
Short, direct answers. Need more? Read the docs or contact us.
What is Duck?
Duck is a Flutter package plus a web builder for over-the-air (OTA) UI updates. You compose screens from components your app already ships, save them as JSON canvases, and your app renders the latest canvas without a store release.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The free tier includes 1 app with 1 page, which is enough to try Duck. For paid plans, contact helpdesk@flexxxlab.com. The duck package on pub.dev is licensed Apache-2.0.
Does Duck update compiled code?
No. Duck updates UI layouts and configuration (JSON canvases) that your installed app interprets. It does not change compiled Dart code or native code.
What can I change over the air?
Layout and content of views built from Duck components, such as containers, section headers, hero cards, small cards, info displays and table cells, plus any custom components your app registers.
What still needs an app release?
New component types, new app logic and native changes. Once a component type ships, you can configure it remotely.
Does this comply with App Store and Google Play rules?
Duck only delivers configuration data, not executable code. Store policies are your responsibility and can change, so review the current Apple and Google guidelines for your app.
Which platforms are supported?
The package declares Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows.
Can I use my own components?
Yes. Extend DuckComponent, build the widget, and pass the parser in the components map when you create Duck. The getting-started guide has a full example.
What happens if a canvas uses a component my app does not have?
Duck renders an unknown-component placeholder rather than failing the whole view.
